About this site

Overview

There are a number of sections to this site, and it might get a bit confusing where there seems to be redundancy between the sections. To help clarify a bit, let me explain what the intention of each top level section is.

Tools and Process

This site is created using IntelliJ 9, primarily as a raw HTML editor, but also to leverage the JWALK stack, and in particular for code intensive articles.

Credits and Attributions

With open source contributions myself, I appreciate work done by "the community" which is available free of monetary obligations. As such, I am happy to honor any attributions type license, such as the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License.

I would like give thanks and credits to the following folks:
to Mark James over at famfamfam for his silk icon set!
to Paul Robert Lloyd over at paulrobertlloyd.com for his social media icons packs!

Privacy

With regards to the tracking and logging behind this web site: As a site operator, web developer and generally curious fellow, there are a number of things which interest me. So, we are "watching" in a few ways, but nothing really special is in place.

Like any responsible web site, we do track via logging, cookies and the features of HTTP. Rest assured, however, that any data collected is rendered completely anonymous, and only includes enough information to be able to help identify visitors as unique, understand how you came to the site, and how you use it.

Data collection in the authenticated portions of this site has the potential to be more detailed, but that additional information is oriented around load/performance tracking and the logging of system errors and warnings. We also want to understand usage behavior, and otherwise shape and tune new features.

To be specific, we use apache logging, various kinds of application logging, google analytics, and a few ad affiliations (described below).

Site Ads

I'm just another guy out there, and most of the material on this site is freely available to the public. In fair exchange for this effort and the maintenance of the site, and in perspective of the impact on (you) this site's visitors, and the general expectation of advertising on the internet in general, I feel comfortable making some minimal effort to monetize the incoming traffic. These revenue streams (trickles?) will help pay for this site's real costs (hosting, maintenance, etc) and "fund" continued side projects. If you'd like to help out more directly, any kind of donation would be tremendously appreciated.

Wulfpak (will soon) make use of the Google AdSense to place ads throughout the site. The goal is to surface what are hopefully contextually appropriate ads in an in-obtrusive way.

In addition, I Rob Loh, and this site Wulfpak, are participants in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com. You will see this primarily in my "bookshelf", book reviews or book notes, and in blog posts made about recent "toy" or geeky household upgrades (e.g. major appliance, computers or entertainment upgrades, etc.).

I am also a participant in the newegg affiliate program, so any hardware related articles with links for parts, etc. will have our affiliate code in them. They've become my de-facto site, as all the the local parts shops have closed up.

I spend an inordinate amount of time canvassing the net doing product research before spending any major chunk of change, so the things I recommend generally come with some solid backing and rationale. While I'm not guaranteeing anyone else will be happy with the choices I make in these regards, I will do my best to surface my criteria, such that one can assess how closely their criteria matches mine.
